What You’ll Experience

Hands-on time, not glass-between-you time
For your whole 40-minute session you are in the room with the capybaras — petting them, feeding them (capybara snacks are included), and finding the scratch spots they love. Many guests are surprised how affectionate they are: a good back scratch often earns you a capybara rolling over for a belly rub.

Take as many photos and videos as you like — and you won’t have to fight a crowd to get them. Our staff know every photogenic angle, help you set up the shot, and take a commemorative photo for each group before you leave.

Our family visited Cappiness on August 18. There was so much cuteness! There are three resident capybaras. Staff was very attentive and helpful, and always offered to take photos/videos for us. When we were there they started off letting us feed them, and then staff brought out more food so we could hang out with them while they ate, and then the last 10 minutes they brought them to the back patio while they ate and we could take photos. The capybaras looked healthy, happy and very very relaxed. I would highly recommend this cafe! We went by taxi (10-15 minutes from our hotel near Shinkuku station).
Leave knowing more than you came with
This isn’t just petting time. Each session includes a short educational video about capybaras, and our staff love filling in the rest — where capybaras come from, how they behave in the wild, and the quirks and personality of each capybara you’re sitting with.

Great experience! The staff were so kind and helped us take photos and we even learned some facts about the capybaras. The capybaras were chill and kept in a clean area and were very friendly. They give you a cup of grass to feed the capybaras with and it’s not cramped like some other places. Great overall experience, would definitely recommend 👍

Small sessions, never a crowd
Every session is reservation-only and kept small — around 10 guests at a time. You will never share the capybaras with a busload of people, and every group gets real, unhurried time with them.

If you want to visit an animal cafe in Tokyo I highly recommend this over the Multiple smaller ones in the shopping districts.
The capybaras come first
Our capybaras take two baths a day, and both cafes close every midday (1:00–3:00 PM) so they can rest properly between sessions. Clean rooms, daily care, and a schedule built around their rhythm — not ours. Read more about how we approach animal welfare.

It’s an amazing experience!!! The 3 capybaras are well kept, active and the place is very clean. Staff are super friendly and generous. It’s a 10/10 experience for anyone who likes capybara. The 1 downside is, it’s a bit of walk from the train station. Plan 15-20 minutes to hike over. But it’s totally worth it!! And there’s no smell if anyone were wondering.
